Junior Mechanical Design Engineer

Prior Scientific is a world leader in developing, engineering, and manufacturing precision components and complete microscope systems. We are currently looking for an enthusiastic recent graduate to join our team as a Junior Mechanical Design Engineer based at our global headquarters in Fulbourn, Cambridgeshire. 

The Junior Mechanical Design Engineer will be part of our multidisciplinary R&D team and will contribute to new designs and support existing products. The role would be well suited to a recent graduate, or a graduate who has 1-2 years of industry experience. 

Key responsibilities

• Use SolidWorks to create and evaluate 3D dynamic designs for optical systems and accessories.
• Use SolidWorks to create detailed drawings for manufacture.
• Configuration of parts and assemblies on the company’s ERP system (EPICOR).
• Work with Production Engineers and production personnel to ensure BOMs, assembly jigs, procedures and packaging are in place.
• Assist with the procurement and build of special projects, including working with suppliers and our own production facility.
• Imaging and design solutions for engineering changes (ECOs) to existing products, to evolve or improve those products and their manufacturing processes.
• Liaise with our Production Engineers, Assembly Managers and Staff, and Planning Department to implement design changes and minimize the disruption of the manufacturing process.
• Build and validation of the designs that you have created.
• Produce work in line with the required quality standards as defined by ISO 9001:2015 when carrying out all duties.

Core skills and experience:

Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
Experience in using SolidWorks
